Howard Printing Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Expansion of Capabilities

NOVEMBER 2006, BRATTLEBORO, VT — Howard Printing, Inc., a commercial offset printing company celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, continues to grow with the addition of a new 4-color press, complementing last year’s purchase of a computer-to-plate system.

Representing a significant investment that opens up new markets, the purchase of the press enables Howard Printing to offer several key benefits for current and prospective clients, including enhanced 4-color quality, increased capacity for higher quantity, competitive pricing, and greater flexibility for print jobs that need a quick turn-around.

The new press can print two colors on both sides of a sheet simultaneously — a great advantage when producing newsletters or brochures, for example — and can automatically adjust and record ink settings to ensure closer reproduction on reprinted orders.

According to Greg Howard, Brattleboro native and founder of the company, “In the 15 years since launching the company, I have seen rapid and continuous changes in the printing and graphics industry. Technological advancements require almost constant investment in equipment and software to remain effective and competitive. Also, global markets impact our business daily, from the way domestic and international paper mills manufacture and sell their product these days, to the way ‘local’ competition is no longer just around the corner, but includes companies far and wide that have online storefronts.”

Howard Printing originally opened for business on November 21, 1991, at what was then known locally as the “former WTSA building” and is now known as the Top of the Hill Grill on Putney Road. In 1999, Howard purchased and renovated its current facility a few hundred feet up the road. Over the past 15 years, the company has grown from two employees to 17 and from 1,500 square feet to 7,000.

Howard Printing is a full-service printing company providing one- to four-color offset printing, desktop publishing and design services, computer-to-plate prepress technologies, and bindery operations. In addition, Howard Printing is the publisher of New England Showcase, a monthly real estate magazine with three editions representing Vermont and parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York, plus an online version found at
